Maria-Teresa Shuck, raised and educated in Managua, Nicaragua, is a longtime resident of Frederick County. Ms. Shuck is nationally certified as a Spanish language interpreter and translator and is currently employed at Frederick Memorial Hospital serving as their lead interpreter and LEP services coordinator. At FMH she chairs the Community Outreach subcommittee as part of the FMH Diversity Advisory Council. Ms. Shuck has spent years serving and advocating for the immigrant community in Frederick and is a founding member and active volunteer for Centro Hispano. She served many years as Centro Hispano’s Board secretary, and currently serves as Centro Hispano’s director. Ms. Shuck and her husband Steve live in Adamstown and are proud parents of three sons.

Henry Felices was born in Santuce PR and came to the DC area at the age of 8 when his father was hired to assist the congressman from Puerto Rico. He served 4 years in the US Navy as an Operations Specialist in a destroyer and as an Air Traffic Controller at sea in a helicopter carrier during and after the Vietnam War. After being discharged he attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a science degree in Geography. He worked for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration as an airport mapmaker for 10 years and then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an aeronautical information specialist for 25 years. He retired from the FAA in December 2011 as the Program Manager of the Airport Safety Data Program and now lives in Middletown, MD with is wife, Diane. He spends some of his free time helping his two grown children by picking up his three grandchildren from elementary school and he also enjoys his volunteer work at the Centro Hispano.

Abdoul Konare: Prior to founding KONARE PLLC, a Washington, DC-based law firm, Mr. Konare was an attorney at Cleary Gottlieb LLP where he focused on antitrust and structured finance. He has received a LL.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation from Georgetown University Law Center in 2003 and a J.D. cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law in 2002. From 2002 to 2003, Abdoul served as a Fellow at the Institute of International Economic Law (IIEL) in Washington, DC. Mr. Konare is a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia and Michigan.


Janet Jordan Harding joined Frederick Regional Health System in October of 2012 as the Director of Cultural Awareness and Inclusion. In that role, Janet guides the work of the Diversity Advisory Counsel and partners with senior leaders to incorporate culteral competencee and workforce strategies into the operational environment. She is a Board Member of Centro Hispano, a central lifeline for Frederick's growing Hispanic/Latino community and also works with a multi-cultural team addressing health disparities under the Frederick County Local Health Improvement Plan. Mrs. Harding previously worked at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, leading their diversity and inclusion initiatives which were recognized among the top 25 in the nation. In an industry where hiring and developing an exceptional workforce and focusing on patient Family Centered Care is key to patient outcomes, diversity plays an important part in achieving patient safety goals.
